Spring home decor: tips and ideas on how to do

spring home decor

Winter is now behind us and it is time to engage in a seasonal makeover of our home environments. Home spring decor means making room for light, color, joy and lightheartedness.

In this article we will provide you with some useful hints to give your home a spring look and make it brighter and more comfortable.

Spring cleaning

The season brings longer and brighter days, of that white light that only spring can give. Thus, we begin to see nooks and crannies that we may not have noticed on dreary days, but which in the light reveal the consequences of the winter months, with windows almost always closed: such as, for example, a few specks of condensation mold. This is why we talk about spring cleaning, which is a more radical cleaning operation that often includes painting the walls and renewing the upholstery.

So, what fabrics, colors and accessories can we focus on to give our home a spring style?

Let’s see.

Decorating home in spring: fabrics

Today, changing the look of the living room is much easier than in the past. In fact, all it takes is a slipcover or replacing pillowcases of pillows, which already changes the overall look of the furniture. But what fabrics are best to focus on in the mid-season that heralds the warm season?

The most appropriate fabrics for decorating home in spring are fresh and natural ones, such as cotton and linen. We can take action on the sofa, armchairs, or chairs, which are pieces of furniture on which we can take drastic action, such as having them reupholstered by the upholsterer (and at no small expense), or we can apply covers that can be easily removed and washed as needed. If we do not want to change the appearance of the seating elements, we can do something softer by simply replacing the cushions.

In addition, we can also renovate curtains with lighter fabrics that allow light to filter through; household linens, such as tablecloths and napkins, sheets, bedspreads and towels, including shower curtain.

Important elements such as carpets should also not be underestimated. Both in the living room and kitchen, in the bedroom as well as in the bathroom. Not very thick, short-haired models in light colors with some colorful, perhaps floral, inserts are suitable for spring.

Colors for spring decorations

So, what are the colors of spring?

Neutral shades and light colors are a great place to start if we want to bring spring into the home. Pastel colors combined with a few bolder tones can give more personality to the ensemble.

Don’t forget that yellow and orange colors convey energy and vitality, green and blue are the colors of meditation and rest, brown and purple are elegant and calming, and white is the color of purity and hygiene, as well as very popular in shabby chic settings.

For example, in order not to make the room too heavy, we can choose neutral colors for large surfaces (walls, floors, draperies, sofas, bed, etc.) and include some decorations and accessories with bolder colors (fuchsia, yellow, light blue, green, orange, etc.). Or, always starting from a neutral base, we can introduce floral-themed details.

If we don’t want to spend a lot of money, we can cover furniture and walls with adhesive paper. The advantages are many: a really affordable cost, no intervention by technicians (we can roll it out ourselves), it can be renewed whenever we want, and it is washable.

Decorate with accessories

We can also take advantage of the warm season to change a few accessories and thus brighten up the whole home environment.

We have already talked about how we can decorate home with candles and how they are essential to personalize a room and create the right atmosphere. Placed on some shelf or in a corner, and combined with seasonal flowers, they can complement the room with elegant sophistication.

Lamps are also a defining element of any space. Both lit and unlit help to embellish and characterize the whole ensemble. In this case, it is best to go for a light-colored bedspread or one with delicate floral patterns (pay attention to color matching).

Also, decorations with flowers and plants cannot be overlooked. Integrating indoor and outdoor environments with seasonal essences helps give that spring-like look to our home.

Think of how much more vibrant, and beautiful to look at, a flowered balcony can be? So make room for rosellas, cyclamens, geraniums, hydrangeas, azaleas, violets and primroses.

The living room can also be embellished with plants, preferably with light-colored or striped leaves (such as phalangium, dieffenbachia or dracaena), and with a few colorful flowers (anthurium, spatiphyllum or the very lively Calancola).

If your thumb is not very green, you can go for dried flowers, which are very elegant and refined, and most importantly do not need special care.

Spring on the table

When it comes to decorating home in spring, the table is one of those aspects that we absolutely cannot overlook.

We mentioned that tablecloths and napkins can also convey the freshness and brightness of spring. So to set a spring table, we aim for light pastel colors, perhaps with some delicate floral patterns.

The plates and glasses can be colorful and vibrant, but in perfect harmony with the tablecloth.

As a centerpiece, we can prepare a flower arrangement with seasonal flowers, perhaps accompanied by some scented candles.

Conclusions

As we said, to give a spring look to the house we can start from small interventions, not very demanding even economically, up to a more radical renovation of the context, with painting or changing the upholstery (such as with a retro wallpaper).

Anyway, after this article you will be clear on what elements you can act on to make a change in the appearance of your home and how you can best choose the ideal solution to apply.
