Scandinavian decor: curiosities, ideas and tips

Scandinavian furniture

Scandinavian furniture: where it comes from, its characteristics, trivia, practical tips and strategies for every room in the home.

Scandinavian furniture (also called Nordic furniture or Nordic style) has become particularly popular thanks to a well-known chain store and has found acceptance among many Italians in the past decade. It originates in Sweden and Norway where cold weather and light scarcity are present for much of the year. It has been listed among ethnic furniture even though, when we think of this kind of furniture, something completely different from Scandinavian style comes to mind.

Scandinavian furniture is not typical of our culture, and the differences with the our classical style are very obvious. Our designers were inspired by the style of various centuries that was largely influenced by our culture and climate, which as we all know is different from what can be found in Sweden and Norway.

Characteristics of the Scandinavian style

In recent years it is fashionable to mix our style with Swedish or Scandinavian elements. This kind of furniture is distinguished by its elegant, essential and extremely functional style reminiscent of large spaces and evenings spent in front of the fireplace. A furniture definitely suitable for areas where winters are cold and with little light.

Nordic style is not as everyone thinks of the furniture that comes from Scandinavia. It is actually a fusion of the Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and Scandinavian styles, which has been strongly influenced given the type of climate in these places.

The understated lines that characterize the Scandinavian style serve to enhance its brightness. In fact, the countries from which it comes have periods when natural light is almost nonexistent, so they need light and bright colors.

The fact of being functional and minimal serves to make spaces as airy as possible , which is why each style uses its own distinct color palette.

Some curiosities about colors

Cool colors are a hallmark of Scandinavian design, perhaps influenced by what nature has to offer. Furniture colors are white, light gray, ice and cream, neutral shades that serve to enlarge the room by making it look larger.

Nature colors are used extensively for walls and textile furnishings. Le walls have prints blue or yellow colors that precisely resemble the sky, while for the fabrics are used the warm colors of the earth like the browns and the reds. The real splash of color is given From the giftware, where you can see colors very flamboyant as the orange and the bright greens.

The kitchen and bathroom are two rooms in the home that need more light, which is why the Scandinavian style is widely used, plus their practicality allows everything to be within reach at all times.

How Scandinavian style was born

When thinking about the Scandinavian style the first thing that comes to mind is. features. The furniture is made with lines slightly curves o tips to give it as good a look as possible. minimal e neat. In addition to wood, textiles and steel are used in furniture construction, materials that are easily remanufactured. The raw material comes from forests where cut trees are immediately replanted.

The style over the years has remained about the same, what has changed, however, is the material from which they are constructed, in fact previously teak with black iron inserts was used. The current one is definitely brighter.

Scandinavian-style furniture also is made to last, fully reflecting their philosophy. Looking at them they may look rather fragile, but in fact they are not fragile at all. To immediately realize that they are really solid, just try touching one or opening a door.

Tips and strategies for every environment

Scandinavian decor is extremely bright, but there are strategies to follow in order to make everything perfect.

Light colors of furniture combined with bright accessories are a great start, but they are not enough. First of all if you want to create an environment that reflects the philosophy of Scandinavian style no curtains, at most half lace curtains. You have to let the light in as much as possible.

Another tip is to include mirrors; they reflect light by returning it in the form of illumination. Better if oval or rectangular in shape and without a frame. Pictures or floral decorations can be added to complete the wall decoration.

For floors that are almost entirely wooden, rugs in neutral colors of beige and cream can serve to brighten up the whole room.

Chandeliers and floor lamps with clean lines complete the Scandinavian-style decor and will artificially illuminate the whole room.

Scandinavian style can give the impression of being cold. Instead it always appears very neat, brightly colored accessories catch the eye making the whole environment look neat and comfortable.

The extraordinary thing about these wonderful villages is that to contrast the whiteness inside the houses are the bright and intense colors with which all the houses are painted on the outside. This happens because since there is little sunshine they need to capture even the last ray to attract its warmth.
